Location:Kalahasti is located near the pilgrimage town of Tirupati and is visited by thousands of pilgrims. This temple is also associated with Rahu and ketu. Access and Accomodation:Tirupati(30km) is the nearest airport and is perhaps the most convenient base for visiting Kalahasti as it(Tirupati) is endowed with several modern lodging facilities.A one day trip from chennai is also possible ,as kalahasti is well connected by road with Tirupati and with chennai and is only a four to five hour drive from chennai.if well planned, Tirupati ,Tirumala and kalahasti can be covered in a day's trip from chennai by car. This ancient temple dedicated to shiva is one of the Pancha Bhoota Stalams, air being the element in case here, the other five temples being Tiruvannamalai(fire), chidambaram(space), Tiruvanaikkaval(water) and Kanchipuram(Earth) respectively.
Ancient History:This temple has been referred to in pre-christian tamil literature. The Tamil Saivite saints of the 1st millenium CE have visited this temple and sung its fame. The adjoining hill Dakshina Kailasam has many a fine pallava carving. The Tamil cholas and the Vijayanagara Rulers have made several endowments to this temple.Adi Sankara is said to have visited this temple and offered worhsip here. There are chola inscription in this temple which date back to the 10th century CE. The telugu poem "Sri kalahasti Satakam"explains the traditions associated with this temple.Muthuswamy Deekshitar ,one of the foremost composers in the Karnatic Music Tradition has, sung the glory of this temple in his Kriti "Sree Kaalahastessa". Other works on this temple include the Sree-kalattipuram of the three brothers Karunapprakasar,Sivapprakasar and Velappa Deekshitar,Tirukkalattipuranam by Aanandakoottar of Veerainagar and Tirukkalatti Ula by Seraikkavirayar. Architecture:The vast west facing Kalahastiswara temple is built adjoining a hill, and on the banks of the river Swarnamukhi. At some points, the hill serves as the wall of the temple. The temple prakarams follow the contour of the adjoining hill the temple plan is rather irregular.North of the temple is the Durgambika hill, south is the Kannappar hill and east is the Kumaraswamy hill Krishnadevaraya built a huge gopuram,a few feet away from the entrance to the temple. The entrance to the temple is crowned with a smaller tower. There is an underground Ganapati shrine in the outer prakaram, while in the innermost prakaram are the shrines of shiva and parvati. The present structure of the temple is a foundation of the Cholas of the 10th century,as testified by inscriptions;improvements and additions were made during the subsequent years of the chola rulers of Tamilnadu and the Vijaynagar emperors. Festivals:Maha shivaratri which occurs in the tamil month of Maasi(Feb 15 through March 15) is one of the greatest festival seasons here, and the celebrations are marked by processions of the deities. The fifth day of the festival in the month of Maasi coincides with the Maha shivaratri.

ANTARVEDI-SRI LAKSHMI NARASIMHA SWAMY Antervedi is located 24Kms from Razole by road,10Kms from Narsapur(by boat)in Rajahmundry.Antervedi is famous for the temple of "Sri lakshmi Narasimha swamy" built during the 15th-16th Century AD. Devastanam Choultries Accommodation is also available in the hotels at Narsapur. RAIL:The nearest railway station are at Rajahmundry and Narsapur. ROAD:Antarvedi can be reached by boat from Narsapur, which is 112-km south of Rajahmundry. There are buses from Razole that take pilgrims to this sacred place. Since Lord Brahma made this place as "Vedic" to perform Rudra Yaga to get free from his sins it is therefore called Antervedi. Raktavilochana son of Hiranyaksha with the boons granted by Lord Shiva unleashed terror in the region and also killed one hundred sons of Vasista. Vasista who was not present at the time of this horror, could witness the scene with his divine power in Brahmaloka. He therefore prayed Lord Narasimha to save further destruction in the hands of Raktavilochana. Lord Narasimha, therefore decended and fought fiercely with the ferocious demon. Since the demon was granted a boon, assuring that the number of sand particles denched by the drops of his blood take the form of his body, Lord Narasimha created Maya Shakti and chopped of the hands of Raktavilochana and ultimately killed him. Maya Shakti helped Lord Narasimha in preventing the blood of the demon falling on the ground, with the result no further bodies of the demon could be produced. Joyous Vasista, on an auspicious day, in the presence of all the gods consecrated the image of Lord Narasimha at Antervedi and all sang his glory. As the time passed, Antervedi became a Jungle, where a cow-heard called Keshavadas used to graze his cattle. On one day he found that one of his cows rained his milk at an anthill and returned home dry. To worried Keshavadas, Lord Narasimha appeared in his dream and asked him to construct a temple for him. The cow-herd with the assistance of the villagers constructed a temple at the anthill. The temple was further developed in 1923 by Sri Narendra Lakshmi Narasimha Rao in gratitude of the god in saving his ships from sinking in the sea. "The Lakshmi Narasimha Swami Kalyanam fair is celebrated each year on the Bhishma Ekadasi day during January-February". Lakhs of people attend the celebrations and the devotees come to take bath at the confluence of the sea at Vasishta Godavari. At the time of the nine-day mela, Antarvedi appears to be like a Kaliyuga Vaikuntha. During the month of November, throngs of devotees come to the temple premises to witness the Deity of Narasimha Swamy without any of the ornaments, garb, or chandanam (sandal paste) that normally adorn the Lord's Form. In the month of Phalguna (January), the Lord's chariot procession is held. Dolepournami celebrations are also held, when the Lord is worshipped with panchamrita abhishekam. LOCATION:
